Note: Menthol Liquid Essential Oil will begin to crystallize and solidify in cool temperatures, however gentle heating will allow it to return to a liquid state.
Botanical name: Mentha arvensis
Common name: Menthol liquid
Plant part: Leaves
Extraction method: Steam distilled (Fractional Distillation).
Menthol liquid is produced by fractionally distilling the Mentha Arvensis so this is not a complete essential oil, more it is a fraction of it. The menthol liquid is around 80% menthol with the remaining 20% comprising of other naturally occuring aroma chemicals such as Menthone, Isomenthone, Pinene and Limonene (approx. 2%) These give the menthol liquid a more complex aroma that many find more attractive than pure menthol. In addition it has a lower melting point and will stay liquid for longer than pure menthol crystals which solidify at 31C.
Menthol is typically used in cooling and refreshing products.
