Fennel is best known for its effect on our lymphatic and digestive systems and as such, is a useful addition to blends targeting slimming, cellulite management, puffiness, and general skin recovery.
Most common applications for Fennel (bitter and sweet) include:

Common uses: Fennel has traditionally been used as a stomachic and carminative. In skin care it is recommended for dull and oily skin.

Aromatic scent:ย Sweet, liquorice-like aroma.
Caution: May cause sensitisation in some individuals. Avoid use if suffering from epilepsy. Avoid during pregnancy.
IFRA Notes:ย The International Fragrance Association publishes safe use guidelines for aromatic materials including essential oils.ย Fennel contains estragole with sweet fennel containing around 1/2 the estragole content of bitter fennel. Estragole is a naturally occurring aroma chemical subject to safe use limits and as such, it is subject to use restrictions.ย IFRA safe-use guidelines vary depending on the type of product being made.ย There are 12 main IFRA categories with some having sub-categories.ย ย If formulating skincare with Fennel oil, we recommend checking your product category against IFRA data and the oil C of A to ensure compliance.ย ย Please note, as IFRA guidelines and product category descriptors do change from time to time, itโs best to ensure you are using the most up-to-date information when formulating.
